This page will hopefully answer questions you may have that are frequently asked. They will be posted here and you can read through to hopefully find an answer. It will be updated as we progress.

RENTALS

Yes! There are rentals! There will be housing and shops on each layer of the sim that players can rent. These will have a restricted prim count and only the paying renter will be able to set prims at this time. Prim allowances are as follows: BUSINESS - 25 prims, HOUSES - 50 prims. This is non-negotiable and we will not be adjusting any of these. Rentals cannot be reserved at this time.

RACES & SUB-RACES

The only permitted races currently are the 22, and their subraces, listed on our website: RACES. This won't change anytime soon. We understand a lot of people have specific requests and while we are very appreciative of how much excitement there is, we cannot consider new races until after we've finalized the HUD and our current systems.

 

Sub-races, such as Moon Elves, Mountain Dwarves, Scourge Aasamir, etc. are not required to be selected in the HUD. You may roleplay as one, but please understand that your racial benefits and traits will only be derived from your base race. So while you may roleplay as a Moon Elf, you’ll still have to pick and use the ability score modifiers of a High Elf on the HUD. This may change in the future, however it isn’t a priority at this time.

CLASSES & SUB-CLASSES

The only permitted classes at this time are the 13 listed on our website: CLASSES. Much like races, this is something that is incorporated into the HUD for character creation purposes. Sub-classes are not something we're ready for yet. This won't happen until much later, not until the core features are completed.

 

It takes a lot of work and scripting to add this level of detail and we need time to make it work and be right. Sub-classes are something that would be an expansion sort of release later on down the road.

FACTIONS & PLAYER-MADE

SUB-FACTIONS

We have 8 primary factions for Waterdeep and we do not restrict who may join them by race, nor are you required to join a faction to play here. Players may be independants if they desire. The factions are all listed on our website FACTIONS and in the OOC landing zone of the sim as well. You may join the open groups for these factions by clicking the link provided when you touch their banner in the landing zone.

 

Player-made sub-factions are permitted provided players apply for them beforehand. This requires at least 10 active members, and submitting an application on our website: APPLICATIONS. Once that is completed, the Admin team will review to discuss its approval, ensure it’s not a duplicate of an already existing group, and then sort out the group creation with you.

 

We require sub-faction groups to be created by the AdminsWaterdeep Resident account, or for the AdminsWaterdeep Resident account to be invited to an already existing group.

OFFICIAL OPENING DATE

Waterdeep officially opened all levels of our sim with a beta version of our custom HUD on March 16th at 4pm SLT.

CAN WE PLAY THE CULT OF THE DRAGON?

Simply put, no, not yet. This is an NPC only antagonist group at this point of our development. It is the universal bad guy for everyone involved as they threaten all of Waterdeep, Skullport and the world.

CAN WE PLAY LORE-SPECIFIC

CHARACTERS OR HEROES?

If by this you mean, "Can I play Hallistar or Drizzit" then the answer is no, absolutely not. No named lore specific-character should be played directly by a player. Notable characters may appear as NPC characters by DMs for events.

 

If by this you mean, "Can I be part of the noble house of <noble house name here> located in Waterdeep?" Yes, so long as it is not a named lore driven character in Forgotten Realms.

CAN WE PLAY RARE ALIGNED RACES?

No, unfortunately not. As it is too easy for the rare to become the norm, we have ultimately decided not to introduce rare aligned or unique character creatures for play in the sim. If it is not listed on the website, you cannot play it.

HOW DO WE BECOME IC FACTION LEADERS?

When we are looking for new faction leaders, we’ll put out a notice or announcement. You’ll need to apply for these on our website : APPLICATIONS. The guidelines for what we expect from leaders of IC groups will be added to the application page soon. What we do require in your application are the following:

1. Your name (SL & Discord if its different)

2. Which faction you want to lead

3. Your experience with IC Leadership

4. LONG AND SHORT TERM GOALS 

5. A sample of your roleplay.
 

The key information is obviously name, faction and your goals. We want to know what your plans are and how you're going to work to get your faction motivated and set on a purpose.
 

When faction leads are filled, we will post it on the #ic-announcements channel and it will be pinned so people can easily find and locate it. The leads post will always be updated as it changes so it won't be re-posted all the time.
 

The turn-around on this is going to be slow at first, we have a lot of applicants to go through. Our goal is to try and have this finalized for the initial leadership within the week (January 26th). Remember, leadership can change in character so don't think you're forced to stay with whomever gets the ball rolling. Just follow the steps if you plan to overthrow (it will be outlined in the guidelines that will be posted on the application page of the website).

IS THERE AN UNDERDARK CITY FOR THE DROW?

Yes and no? The Underdark city we're representing is Skullport and this is whereDrow may reside. It is too far too prim heavy for us to build both Skullport and a Drow city beneath it.

 

At this time, there is no player-made specific Drow faction/group within our campaign. The Drow can join the existing factions or band together to create this following the previously mentioned process for player-made factions.

ARE THERE RULES FOR THE GAME SOLIDIFIED?

For the most part, yes! This will be an ever-expanding and changing creature as we work toward perfecting how our game works. We are inspired by D&D 5E, so it will be hopefully very familiar to veteran players. But there are also many homebrew elements and changes in an effort to make it work for SL RP and more approachable for new players.

WILL IC LAWS BE CONTROLLED BY THE STAFF OR BY THE PLAYERS?

Our goal is to ensure we stay true to the lore and laws of Waterdeep and Skullport at launch, although they may organically evolve the lore as our sim grows. IC laws are already established prior to the launch of our campaign by sim staff. All changes to these laws will have to be handled case-by-case and will likely need Administration oversight even if it’s attempted via roleplay just to ensure it is not abuse of power or the beginning of an inquisition we aren't prepared for.

campaign information

Our campaign is set in Waterdeep on the continent of Faerûn in Forgotten Realms. The Date is 1489 DR after the Spellplague. Waterdeep has always been a melting-pot of races and is even now more-so after the events of the Spellplague. 

 

We are utilizing 5E as our basis for our D&D Campaign. The word to remember in that sentence is 'basis'. Due to the nature of Second Life and the fact that there will be PvP, we will be adjusting it and doing our best to make sure no one class or race is a god compared to others. There will also be a max level of 10 for all players. Again, this is for balancing purposes. As we know more about how that will look, we will let you know.

WHEN CAN WE SEE POTIONS, MAGIC ITEMS, INVENTORY,ETC?

Potions, magic items and inventory will take time as they are being introduced at a later point. Please be patient, we'll get it up and ready for you all as soon as we can. We strongly recommend you check our discord channel #announcements or the website for updates.

WILL WE HAVE MOUNTS?

WHAT ARE THE COSTS FOR MOUNTS?

Yes mounts will be permitted. These will be at no cost and purely cosmetic (they won't give you any stat bonuses) at this time. Players must keep their mounts area/race specific and refrain from using wildly rare magical creatures.  No one will have any sort of flying mount.

HOW CAN I GET REZZ RIGHTS FOR THE SIM?

CAN I SET HOME HERE?

Unfortunately, you can’t request either rez rights or home privileges. Rezzing rights will be reserved for the sim’s staff, builders and people who have paid rentals. Setting home will be for sim staff only right now. This may change later on, but not until we're ready for it. Our desire is to have all players start in the skybox and move from there to wherever they wish to start their story. Each level has at least 3 entry points from the skybox so you can choose the general vicinity in which you begin your play with relative ease.

CAN I PLAY A PURE ANIMAL ON THE SIM?

No. We are not allowing pure animal players. If you want to be an animal, we recommend you focus on having the ability to shapeshift if you want to walk around as a beast most of your time.

CAN MY CHARACTER HAVE WINGS?

No, we are strictly prohibiting wings and flight at this time. Aasamir can have feathers on their shoulders, arms and back, however, they cannot have wings. This is to prevent a flying advantage in combat and fleeing, but may change down the road we develop our system.

ARE WATERDEEP AND SKULLPORT AT WAR?

No, not yet at least. We are establishing them as having a truce while being individually governed cities. This may change as lore progresses, however, for now there is no war.

ARE LYCANS,VAMPS,DRAGONBORN,MINDFLAYERS OR DRAGONS PERMITTED?

They are not, nor are they listed in our races/classes page. If these are used, they will likely be in DM events as NPC boss characters.

CAN WE ASK FOR DM EVENTS?

HOW WILL THESE BE STRUCTURED?

There is a DM request gargoyle in the OOC landing zone. Fill out the notecard application with as much detail as you can, with no less than a week between your submission and your desired date. The more information you provide, the better the odds that we’ll be able to fulfill your request. But while we’re glad to help you, our DMs and staff are humans too: if you don’t hear back from us to confirm your event, consider reaching out and attempting to schedule for another time.

WHAT TITLE CAN I USE AS A NOBLE?

Usually this isn't something we'd enforce, however, we also want to ensure we don't have a million prince/princesses running about willy nilly. Therefore, these are the available titles for those of noble houses:

  • Leader/Head of a house - Can be unique so long as it is a lesser title than the Open Lord's title and not above their station of authority.

  • Female Nobles - Lady

  • Male Nobles - Lord

  • King, queen, prince, princess are all titles we will not permit at this time.

HOW COME I CANNOT SEE GROUP CHAT FOR MY FACTION IN SECOND LIFE?

You have joined the group, but you haven't RP'ed to be accepted into the group officially. We have implemented a check/balance to allow faction leads to have a bit of authority over their members. We want you to be part of that faction, yes, and to do so, we want you to grow your character through being accepted as a member with your amazing skills as a player!  Have fun with it and enjoy the process.

WHEN WILL A LIST OF POTIONS, POISONS AND ITEMS BE AVAILABLE?

We’re still working on an expansion to our HUD for the inventory system. Until then, any items must be non-mechanic (an exception to this is if they impose a disadvantage on a willing target, such as yourself) and for roleplay/ narrative fluff only. Stay tuned for announcements on this topic.

CAN I USE A GUN?

Only if you're an artificer! This is a unique feature of that class, and these fabulous devices partially function on its user’s magic to work.

DO I HAVE TO PLAY AS XYZ SUBCLASS?

I WANT TO PLAY AS ANOTHER ONE.

At launch, yes, there is one predetermined subclass per class. We had to be realistic about our scope and we're aiming to have the system fully implemented with all 13 classes working first. In the future, we'll be releasing more subclasses like DLC packages. Everyone whose made a character already when those classes are released will be given at least one free opportunity to change their subclass

HOW DOES LIGHTING,DARKVISION AND SUNLIGHT SENSITIVITY WORK?

These are there largely for the DMs and for narrative/roleplay fluff. Players can choose to disadvantage themselves in their own roleplay or combat if applicable if they wish, but there's no way to enforce the negative effects of poor lighting in combat without a large scripting effort.

DO FACTIONS GET NPC GUARDS?

The short answer is "no." Unlike other places, we will be avoiding the NPC wars, which is commonly how conflicts go when enemies or combatants stir the pot in controlled territories. Here, conflict of that sort will be player driven. Does this mean you cannot utilize the NPC guards of Waterdeep? Of course not, it means you need to have a DM assist you with that. If you believe NPC Guards are necessary for a scene/incident/event, contact a DM to call in the guard and they'll respond accordingly.

HOW DO I GET XP?

Every player gains 1 experience point per day (per character slot) when they log in. Players may gain an additional 2 experience points per month (per character slot) by participating in multiple DM events. (This is a hard cap so that no one can exploit the system or level too quickly compared to others!)

IS THERE A TRAVEL TIME BETWEEN THE TWO CITIES?

Yes! To go from Skullport to the portion of tunnels in Undermountain that we are utilizing is a 2 hour journey. You do not get a short rest because it is a strenuous trek. To go from Waterdeep to the Undermountain, it is a 2 hour trek. Again, you do not get a short rest because it is a strenuous journey. No one can go from Waterdeep directly to Skullport, or vice versa, without acknowledging this difficult adventure through Undermountain in their storyline/times.
